BHP Supplier Innovation Program

BHP is partnering with Austmine to facilitate an open innovation program, to engage suppliers and implement emerging technologies as part of its Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS) Sector Strategy.

The Supplier Innovation Program will deliver a series of challenges, public-facing events that showcase BHP “challenges” or business problems to METS sector participants, and invite their participation in workshops to develop solutions to these challenges. The winning solution has the opportunity to become a paid pilot program, with the opportunity for the supplier to win ongoing work with BHP.

The Australian METS sector is a valued partner to BHP, providing the ideas, skills and knowledge to solve many of their business challenges. BHP's Supplier Innovation Challenges make it easier for the METS sector to access project opportunities, access new avenues for collaboration and to put forward solutions while retaining IP.

The Supplier Innovation Program will allow BHP to crowd-source a broader range of unique and innovative solutions to business problems and represents a significant shift from the tender methods traditionally used to engage suppliers.

Austmine has also partnered with BHP to deliver the Fatality Elimination Program.

BHP is committed to supporting regional supply chains and the economic diversification and sustainability of regional communities across Australia. As our industry shifts towards more remote and technologically enabled operations, our ability to build and leverage local capability, and continue to demonstrate our social value contribution, will be critical to both our competitive advantage and reputation.
