Sanjiv Manchanda B.Eng MBA
Chief Executive Officer
Mr Manchanda is an Electrical Engineer with an MBA, has been admitted as a Fellow to the Institution of Engineers, Australia, and Fellow to the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. He has more than 34 years of professional experience in mining and related industries; including design, feasibility studies, development, project construction, commissioning, ramp up and operation of large complex multi-billion dollar developments.
He has been in the position of CEO of Atlas Iron Pty Ltd since Hancock group takeover in October 2018. He has led the company through a strategic review and formalised the multi pillar approach to stabilising and maximising the value from current operations, medium term growth for iron ore with development of Corunna Downs and Miralga Creek projects, long terms iron ore growth with progression of studies for development of McPhee project with group asset synergies in collaboration with Roy Hill and progression of exploration portfolio with copper and gold tenements.
Mr Manchanda has a role within the wider HPPL group as Head of Project Development and has roles on steering committees on various mining related growth projects within the group portfolio.
Prior to assuming these roles, Mr Manchanda held the position of Project Director since May 2011 and assumed the role of Chief Operating officer in June 2016 for the Roy Hill project of HPPL group. Reporting to the CEO of Roy Hill and being a part of the Executive Leadership Team, he had a significant influence in leadership a change management as the business grew from 40 people to 1,900 through various stages of studies, engineering, construction, commissioning and ramp up to name plate capacity for the Roy Hill project.
During this period, Mr Manchanda has extensive experience in dealing with Lenders through their technical advisors as well as minority equity partners through investment phase, development and operational phase including providing monthly management updates on business performance key issues and negotiating decisions and outcomes.
Mr Manchanda has extensive experience in working organisations across the globe specially in Korea, Japan and China with relationships with various Contractors, suppliers, Clients, Shareholders and Lenders. He is well known and respected in local WA and Australian Industry, Contractors and Suppliers. Mr Manchanda was awarded Project Director of the Year 2016 by Project Management Institute (PMI) for his role on the Roy Hill Project and, CEO of the Year – Runner-Up by The CEO Magazine for the 2020 Executive of the Year Awards.
