Webinar: Panel – Examining Mining’s Environmental Priorities

Austmine will welcome expert panelists for an in-depth discussion about the environmental challenges impacting businesses across the mining value chain, and the strategies and procedures being implemented to develop opportunities for a sustainable future.

 

The panel will explore:

  • Mining’s energy transition and the development of technologies and processes to decarbonise the industry.
  • Management of environmental priorities such as biodiversity, water, waste, community impacts and land restoration.
  • The role of innovation in driving environmental sustainability and the solutions adopted from the METS sector.

Speakers 

Fay Cranmer, Senior Managing Director, Accenture

Fay Cranmer recently rejoined Accenture to further her passion for improving sustainability, productivity and safety through the effective development and application of data, intelligence and digital technologies into the operating & manufacturing core of businesses.

Having previously served as CIO for Rio Tinto, Fay has over 30 years of experience in the resources sector and a passion for delivering transformational change in complex organisations.

Peter Johnson, Chairman, Maptek

Maptek Chairman, Peter Johnson is a Mechanical Engineer with 20 years’ experience in developing and delivering technology innovations for the global mining industry. Peter helped design and develop the long range terrestrial laser scanners that revolutionised survey capabilities in the early 2000s.

Peter has held leadership positions at Maptek since 2006, including global CEO from 2015-19, where he continued to drive new technology platforms and applications for building solutions across the entire mining value.

Peter joined the Leadership Board of PETRA Data Science in 2019 and was instrumental in championing sponsorship of not-for-profit CEEC to explore the opportunities for mining companies to leverage technologies that achieve the best possible ESG outcomes.

Sarah Watson, Group Environment, Social & Governance Manager, Harmony South-East Asia

Sarah Watson holds professional degrees in environmental science and water resources management. She has worked in the fields of environmental and social impact assessment, mine closure planning, project feasibility studies, sustainability and stakeholder engagement for 17 years.

Sarah’s leadership experience in mining and major infrastructure projects spans Australia, Papua New Guinea and the UK. Sarah is the Group Environment, Social and Governance Manager for Harmony South-East Asia, supporting operating and emerging assets for the SE Asian portfolio of the Harmony Gold business.

Matt Pyle, Director - Technical Solutions, Ausenco

Matt has 15 years’ experience in the design, operation and optimisation of minerals, base metal and precious metal processing plants. His experience spans all project stages from testwork management, concept level designs, and due diligence through to detailed design, commissioning, operations and optimisation.

Matt runs Ausenco’s Technical Solutions and ESG in Capital Projects groups, which together drive lower footprint process plant designs.

His core interests include novel technologies and flowsheets, bulk and particle sorting, coarse particle flotation, high capacity tailings filtration and ‘mine of the future’ approaches to process control, automation and continuous improvement.
